How to Route Calls to an ElevenLabs AI Agent in Twilanswer
Send inbound calls to an ElevenLabs voice agent from a call route. Requires the ElevenLabs channel integration and an agent configured in ElevenLabs.
You can use an ElevenLabs call action to route inbound calls to an AI voice agent you’ve built in ElevenLabs. After the basics are in place in Twilanswer and ElevenLabs, you pick the agent on the route like other call actions.
For the overall route editor, see How to Configure Call Routes.
Prerequisites in Twilanswer
You must have the ElevenLabs integration connected in Twilanswer. If it isn’t set up yet, follow How to Integrate ElevenLabs with Twilanswer to add the channel (same Channels area as Slack, email, and other integrations). Once that connection exists, the call route can list agents from your ElevenLabs account.
What you configure in Twilanswer
On the call route, choose the ElevenLabs action and select which agent should take calls for this route. That’s the Twilanswer-side setup: link the route to the right agent.

What you configure in ElevenLabs
Most of the work happens outside Twilanswer:
- You need an ElevenLabs account and an agent created there.
- Invest time in prompting and context: give the agent clear instructions, business context, and guardrails so it can answer questions accurately and stay on topic. Strong configuration in ElevenLabs is what makes the handoff from your Twilio number feel reliable.
Twilanswer routes the call to the agent you select; behavior and knowledge come from how you’ve built that agent in ElevenLabs.
Beta and pricing
ElevenLabs AI agent calling through this integration is currently in beta.
While the feature is in beta, it is included at no extra charge for Twilanswer users. Twilanswer reserves the right to introduce separate pricing for this capability and/or limit availability by plan when the integration moves to general availability. Check current plan details and announcements in the product or billing materials when you enable or rely on this feature.
